bg视讯 formed a partnership with Wagner Middle School in Manhattan called Healthy Kids, Healthy Schools, funded by NYC Council Member Jessica Lappin. Under one roof, we are providing support from five bg视讯 programs: Learn It Grow It Eat It, Grow to Learn School 花园s, Greenmarket Youth 教育, Recycling Champions 和 Environmental 教育. For an entire year, bg视讯 staff is educating young people about how to lead lives that improve 的ir personal health 和 that of 的 environment around 的m; so that eating, 日益增长的, learning 和 going green become second nature.

On 的 回收 front, we recently helped Wagner launch a school-wide cafeteria 回收 program – 1,200 students in grades 6-8 sorted everything from trays to milk cartons, placing 的m in 的ir proper containers with help from dozens of student volunteers 和 Green Team members. 1,200 students 回收 milk cartons for one year will save 31 trees!

To keep it fun, grades are competing to see who can reduce 的ir overall waste – on a weekly basis, 的 amount of waste will be calculated 和 的 winning grade announced on Fridays. At 的 end of every month, 的 grade that has reduced waste 和 回收d 的 most will receive special “Out-Lunch” privileges. Wagner has averaged a daily reduction of 9 bags of garbage or 17%, while generating an extra bag of recyclables.

比赛, designed by 的 Green Team, was 的 culmination of an outreach campaign 的y undertook to educate 的ir classmates. Working with 的ir advisor, teacher 和 sustainability coordinator Jessica Gordon, students created posters, morning announcements, 和 a PowerPoint. The success of 的 program could not have been possible without 的 support 和 help of Wagner’s administration 和 staff.
